MUSIC MINISTRY
Music plays a vital role in the Filipino Youth Apostolate.
As Jaime Cardinal Sin, Archbishop of Manila, once pointed
out, despite the poverty of the Filipino people, we are
blessed with two great gifts: our music and our faith. In
the case of the Filipino Youth Apostolate, both gifts are
present in abundance. They complement each other and have
produced many wonderful opportunities for glorifying God.
The FYA choir strives to celebrate the Eucharist
through song in two ways. First, we seek to enhance the
prayerful and meditative nature of the mass through Gregorian
chants and sacred choral music. Second, we emphasize the
celebratory nature of the liturgy through contemporary Christian
music- especially contemporary Filipino Music.
The FYA choir seeks to maintain the tradition of excellence
that has been the hallmark of many Filipino choirs both
at home and abroad. We have an extensive repertoire, ranging
from traditional and contemporary Tagalog Catholic hymns
to Gregorian and Taize chant to Latin polyphonic music from
the Rennaissance period to modern Charismatic Christian
music.
choir sang for the Opening Prayer Service
of the Archdiocesan Youth Rally at St. Joseph Seminary in
Dunwoodie. In 1999, we sang for the Filipino Mass at St.
Patrick's Cathedral. As the choir grows, so will our repertoire.
Our musical activities in the future will not only be limited
to singing in church, although this will always be our primary
emphasis.
We rehearse about once a week at the
Philippine Pastoral Center.
If you are interested in joining the
FYA choir or would like to learn more about our music ministry,
